Tina - Flying Phobia

'I have had a phobia about flying for a long time.  My family and I were planning a 'holiday of a life-time' to Australia and I was dreading it because I knew I would spoil it because of this.  Even making the arrangements for a holiday would make me anxious!

I had never had hypnotherapy before but had heard it could help with phobias.  I made an appointment and was hypnotised the day before the flight.

Travelling to the airport I felt slightly nervous but nowhere near as bad as I had been on previous occasions.  To my surprise and delight I managed to cope with all the flights without panicking and getting too worked up.  If I felt a little on edge, I thought about Lin's advice and I also had a CD she had recorded for me, which helped me to relax.

We had a fabulous holiday in Australia and I even went on an internal flight from the Sunshine Coast down to Sydney with no problems!

We had such a brilliant holiday that we are planning to go back in a few years time and are even thinking about going away at Christmas (flying, of course!).

Sarah - Learning a Foreign Language

'I am married to a Norwegian and in order to be able to speak to my in-laws, who don't speak English, I have been attempting to learn the language.  I work full-time and on arriving home felt tired and could not get into the right frame of mind to study.  A friend suggested that I try hypnotherapy.  I had no idea whether it would help but I was getting desperate.

The first session was for improving my memory and following the therapy, each night I got out my books and found I was able to take in so much.  When I found my concentration waning, I listened to the CD Lin gave me, which got me going again.  I found it so much easier to remember words than before.  My second, and final session, a few weeks later was therapy for actually learning a foreign language.

At Christmas we travelled to Norway to be with my husband's family and my confidence was such that while there I found myself trying to speak Norwegian, which made my in-laws (and my husband) so happy.

All in all, I am thrilled to bits with the effect having the hypnotherapy has had on me.  So, thank you Lin for your help.'

Sue - Pain Management

'Due to needing a hip replacement I have been in constant pain for some considerable time.  According to my Consultant my condition had not deteriorated sufficiently for me to have a hip replacement! The constant jarring on my hip as I walked meant I was in constant pain and sitting down wasnt much better as my hip stiffened and I was in pain, and although painkillers helped, I didnt want to be popping pills all the time, as I had no idea how long I would have to wait for the operation.  I also slept badly and was constantly awoken with pain in my hip.

Lin was recommended to me by a colleague who had been to see her about something else.  Using a combination of hypnotherapy and NLP (which she  explained was a technique called neuro linguistic programming) I was able to manage the pain until nine months later I was able to have the hip replacement.  With the aid of hypnotherapy and NLP it helped to make my life bearable.'

'I have been shy for most of my life.  When anxious I would get red blotches on my chest, 'gabble' and/or blurt out something inappropriate.  I was okay with my family but not at work.  I had a session of hypnotherapy and was also taught something called SWISH.

'Having failed my driving test three times, I had virtually given up hoping of ever passing it.  Another test was booked and I was dreading it.  I was so sure I would fail again, I didn't tell my family or friends about the test.

Not long before the test I read an article in a magazine about hypnotherapy and wondered if it would help me.  I made an appointment and couldn't believe how wonderfully calm and relaxed I felt following the therapy.  Although during the test I felt a bit nervous, my nerves were under control, and to my delight at the end of it I was told I had passed!   I danced down all the way down the street!'

'I have been on a diet of one type or another for most of my adult life.  I must have joined every slimming club in the area (some of them more than once) and to start with I would feel really enthusiastic and even managed to lose some weight but then something would happen and I would go on a binge, and then felt I couldn't go back to that particular class, so would give up completely and gain all the weight back, plus a bit more!   I would then join another slimming club and so the cycle continued.

I saw an advert for hypnotherapy in the local paper and thought I would try it.  Lin explained that hypnotherapy for weight was not at all about dieting, it was about the emotional relationship with food.

Since having the hypnotherapy I have noticed subtle changes in my eating habits and feel so much more in control.  I am able to eat virtually whatever I want to, but its in moderation - I seem to think differently these days about food and I am not constantly wondering about what I am going to have for the next meal.  The temptations are still there but its how I react to them which is so different. I feel so much more confident, I am eating more healthily and am gradually losing weight.  I have even started to exercise!

Leanne - OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Fears and Relaxation Issues

'I approached Chesterfield Hypnosis for a number of issues relating to OCD, (cleaning), fears (horse riding and intimacy), and relaxation issues. I was sceptical at first, but had tried a number of other 'traditional' therapists including referral from the doctor, but was unsatisfied with my progress. My problems were not improving and on a conscious level I seemed to have problems with putting into practice what previous methods had suggested. Four sessions of hypnosis were attended, each time tackling a separate issue. At first I felt quite silly, but as the weeks progressed, people started to comment on my changes. These changes were really subtle and were not overly obvious to me - I suppose I was looking too hard. Lin provided CD's after each session that allowed me to reinforce the session contents in between appointments - these really helped me to unwind after a hard and stressful day at work. I have now completed my sessions, and on reflection the changes in me are incredible. It is hard to believe that something so simple could have had some a big impact, where all previous traditional methods had failed. Thank you Lin!'
